About us: the studio behind DNIe for Mac
Page updated: 28 July 2026
DNIe for Mac is made by NEXO APEX S.L., a small software studio based in El Vendrell (Tarragona, Spain) and run by David Pelayo. We build small, focused, privacy-respecting products; this is one of them. We are not the government: DNIe for Mac is an unofficial product, not affiliated with or endorsed by the Dirección General de la Policía, Spain's Ministry of the Interior or the Government of Spain.
Why DNIe for Mac exists
The DNIe was designed with Windows in mind. On a Mac, using it has meant years of fighting installers, Java, certificates that never show up in the browser, and guides written for a different operating system. Our starting point was simple: reading the card, signing in to a government site and signing a document should feel like a Mac app, not like paperwork.
The rest of this site follows from that. The AutoFirma on Mac and blocked or expired PIN guides and the glossary exist because those are the questions people actually have before installing anything, and they are almost never answered in one place.
How we work
- On your device. Your DNIe, your PIN and your data are processed on your Mac and stay there. There is no server of ours in the path.
- No telemetry. The app carries no analytics, no identifiers, no "usage statistics". This website offers optional analytics, off until you accept it.
- Standards, not inventions. Signatures follow PAdES, CAdES and XAdES with RFC-3161 timestamping; the conversation with the card uses the secure channel the DNIe specification itself defines.
- Native. No Java, no system profiles, no odd configuration: a signed and notarized macOS app.
- No ambiguity about what this is. We are not the government, and we say so on every page rather than in the small print.
What we are not
DNIe for Mac is an unofficial product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Dirección General de la Policía, Spain's Ministry of the Interior or the Government of Spain, and we neither issue certificates nor provide trust services. Your DNIe and its certificates are official — issued by the Police; our app is just the tool you use them with on your Mac.
Other products from the studio
We also make Anonymize my ID, which masks the identity documents hotels, car rentals and visa forms ask for — same underlying idea: sensitive documents get processed on your device, not in a stranger's inbox.
